Do you have good memories

of a poetry book from childhood?
I am lucky enough to say YES.

The Golden Treasury of Poetry
by Louis Untermeyer

illustrated by Joan Walsh Anglund

formed a substantial,  sumptuous part of my young self.

I confess I remember pictures and rhythms more than words. Images found their way into the innermost part of my make-up. I can’t recall specific details, but I know in my core the colour essence, the flavour, the sensory delight that fed me from age dot.

Margaret Connolly and Natalie Jane Prior are the esteemed editors.

Mostly I have a very un-grownup ostrich strategy of filtering it out. Mostly I don’t see…I don’t actively look….at such niggly naggy Things if I can help it.

Do you know what I mean? (reprise)

Yellow Teapot

‘confident of welcome in the world’

Teacup Period

I was in the heart of my teacup period.

Rhyming Cuplet 2

Rhyming Cuplet 2

This was a few years back. I met up with an old friend Clare, who lives interstate.  It turned out she had written a poem about a teapot.

I was immediately inspired to paint a yellow teapot.

Serendipity (dontcha love that word?)
