When Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemon Art

This is my new saying.

I’ve lemon-twisted the old phrase,

‘When Life Gives You Lemons,

Make Lemonade’.

The revised axiom, the paintage creation, arose from a lemony situation. Not that there’s anything wrong with lemons. Just as there’s nothing wrong with pear shapes. Indeed, I prefer lemons to lemonade…and they are so much more healing.

Let’s reclaim fruit beauty. Let’s reclaim our lives from the sour times.

But if we are talking lemons as in bitter, difficult times,

life has been presenting me with those small sour fruits of late. Life has been squirting lemon juice in my eye.

what colour to paint around the lemon?
How about blue with squishings of olive green?

I just want you to know that it is, it truly is, possible to give yourself respite from Life’s Lemons by making art.

add some pretty sticky tape that happens to be nearby

The picture backstory? A friend had given me a lemon print shirt. (sorry dear friend, but I figured it was for art rather than for wearing). Who knew that one well-intended brightly printed blouse would spawn a whole new outlook – a whole new art-burst?

Or that it would inspire the transformation of despair into joyful creative expression?

  1. Hi dear Sally! Thank you for your lemony inspiration. I haven’t tuned in for awhile because I’ve been distracted by making lemon-art in the form of leaving my old outdated job of the last 10 years! I have squeezed myself out of there and into a more home-centred and Zesty way of being I hope. We are surrounded by actual lemons here at the moment too, because our tree is full, so there is much lemon squeezing to be done too! One of the things I hope to be doing more of is writing, and I carry your beautiful encouragement of that with me constantly – thank you always for that xx I hope all is well in your lemony-art world.
